a LOT of it is personal pref. Pirellis are great if you don't mind spending a little extra. Dunlops are great as well.. i heard they wear a lot better.. lasts longer. Michelins are probably the cheapest good trackday tires you can get.. if you are just starting out... try those out.. and see how you like them. jsut my humble openion.

there really is no need to get on DOT race rubber for now. By your questions, I presume your are new to track riding. I recommend Pirelli Diablo Corsa III's or the Bridgestone BT016. These tires are designed for aggressive street riding with occasional trackdays. If you are still riding on the street, you surely don't want to be on DOT's, as they will never heat up to proper operating temps and will be slippery as snot on the streets.

The DCIII's and 016 are multi compound tires with tons of side grip, and harder centers for more street mileage. They absolutely strut on the track, and inspire lots of confidence on the street. The carcass of the Pirelli's are soft, so you'll feel more bumps on the streets than normal whereas the Stones are stiffer and will like the public roads better. I would not run any other tire on a street bike unless I was looking for a touring tire. With either of those, you'll be good well into your new addiction.

Focus on improving the rider at this point. As your speed picks up, and your skills increase, then work on bike upgrades.

Thanks 4 the info. Ive been doing trackdays for 3 years now. I a hard core addict. I use Michlen tires. The reason I ask is because the 2 main org> I ride with now are STT and Nesba. Stt use Michlen and Nesba use Pirelli so when U guys have a trackday and there is a tire guy at the track I was wondering what he would be selling. Sorry for the confusion.Pic of me having fun.

Gotcha! Guess I read too much into your post. Sorry.

We have tire service with Bridgestone and Pirelli provided by South Central Race Center. We have Michelins on occasion, but can have anything you like there with advanced notice.

Are Pirelli tires really that much better? I spent almost 400 bucks or more on a set ... cant recall exactly how much but the vendor told me they were much better than power race Michelin tires. Not sure of all the differences but i was checking out the Pirelli website...

for the record I have always ran MICHELIN tires pilot race tires.

As good as the Pirelli's are, and they are worlds ahead of Michelin, teh Bridgestones get my vote. I've used them all, and you can't go wrong with either the Stone's or Pirelli's. You'll find you will get more life out of the Bridgestones.
